BALTIMORE - Andrew Miller, the left-handed reliever acquired from the Red Sox before Thursday's trade deadline, has reported to the club.
The Orioles sent minor league pitcher, Eduardo Rodriguez, to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Miller. In 50 appearances for the Red Sox this season (42.1 IP), Miller has pitched to a 2.34 ERA with 69 strikeouts and just 13 walks.
To make room for Miller on the 25-man roster, the Orioles designated reliever Ryan Webb off the roster. Webb, in 42.2 innings pitched this season, has a 3.80 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 10 walks.
The hope is that Miller can solidify the back end of the Orioles bullpen, while adding a viable left-handed option in relief. However, Miller is effective against both left and right-handed hitters with a .150/.203/.217 line against lefties and .180/.279/.258 versus righties.
