California Chrome owners happy with 3rd post position at Preakness

Pimlico prepares for 139th running of Preakness

BALTIMORE - Officials Wednesday announced the post positions for the 139th Preakness Stakes with Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome in the No. 3 spot.

Post Positions:

1) Dynamic Impact

2) General A Rod

3) California Chrome

4) Ring Weekend

5) Bayern

6) Rita Antonia

7) Kid Cruz

8) Social Inclusion

9) Pablo Del Monte

10) Ride On Curlin

Steve and Carolyn Coburn co-own California Chrome with Perry and Denise Martin. The Coburns say they are happy with that position.

"I was really good with it. We just didn't want him to come out of the one or two hole but he's got enough speed to get him out and settle him down and he won't be stuck on the ground so we're really pleased with it," Carolyn Coburn told ABC2.

Responding to the 3 to 5 odds in favor of California Chrome capturing the middle jewel of the triple crown, Steve Coburn said "We knew we were going to be the favorite winning the Kentucky Derby ... It is what it is."

"I've said it all along, I believed this horse would win the triple crown, I'm saying it again," Steve added.

There are nine other contenders though, including Social Inclusion, the odds makers second choice to win, looking for the upset on Saturday afternoon.

The 139th running of the Preakness Stakes is scheduled for 6:18 p.m. on Saturday May 17, 2014.
