ISRAEL - A man convicted of killing a Maryland teen is killed in an Israeli prison standoff.
Police say Samuel Sheinbein stole a weapon and shot three guards - critically wounding two - before barricading himself in the compound.
Israeli special forces raided the compound - Sheinbein was killed in a shootout with officers.
Sheinbein's lawyers told officials the 34-year-old prisoner was under duress but that the Israeli prison service has ignored their warnings.
Sheinbein fled to Israel after murdering and dismembering 19-year-old Alfredo Enrique Tello Jr. in Montgomery County in 1997.
In 1999 an Israeli court sentenced him to 24 years in prison - after blocking his extradition to Maryland.
Sheinbein was 17-years-old at the time of the murder - and could have faced a life sentence in Maryland.
