For the past six years, Towson University's men's lacrosse team has participated in the Komen Race for the Cure in honor of their academic advisor who lost her battle with breast cancer.
Bobbi Madison was the assistant athletic director for athletic academic achievement at Towson. She worked closely with the men's lacrosse team. After she was diagnosed with breast cancer, they made a commitment to support her. This year, senior captain Brian Bolewicki led the team.
"The atmosphere is awesome...you can look around and everyone's in such a good mood and it's for a great cause," Bolewicki said.
The entire lacrosse team was up bright and early Sunday morning to support the fight against breast cancer. Bolewicki said he really enjoys the event and always has fun.
"Everyone's just so happy," he said. "It's such a cool idea everyone can come together and have fun."
Six years ago when Shawn Nadelen became the men's lacrosse head coach, he made it a priority for his team to honor Madison.
"Coach Nadelen always wanted us to come and support her," Bolewicki said.
Madison passed away in January 2015. Bolewicki said he and the team will continue to support the fight against breast cancer and attend Race for the Cure. He said they want to do their part to help others.
"Just making everyone smile and doing everything we can," Bolewicki said.
