CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Some Chestertown residents were given a scare on Friday after an old tank artillery shell was found on a local roadside and a bomb squad had to be called in to defuse it.
Bruce Bouch, spokesman for the Maryland State Fire Marshall (MSFM), said that the owner of the Worton Creek Marina discovered the 75 millimeter tank artillery shell beside the road at 23145 Buck Neck Road, a short distance away from the marina.
The MSFM repsonded to the scene and ascertained that the shell was live. The MSFM contacted the Aberdeen Proving Ground's Army Emergency Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. The Army bomb squad arrived at the scene and rendered the shell safe. No injuries were reported.
