Widespread power outage reported in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. - UPDATE:    The power is back on in Ocean City.  Several viewers have told us the lights started coming back on around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night.

There is still no word on what caused the outage that left nearly 4,000 people in the dark at one point Sunday night.

Sunday night's outage impacted the ocean side and was felt from 60th Street up to 94th Street.

UPDATE:  We are still waiting to hear back from Delmarva Power about the cause and extent of the power outage.

A number of folks posted on our Facebook page, telling us what they're seeing.  Leslie Walker said she drove from the boardwalk to 116th Street.  She wrote that power is out from 60th Street up to 94th Street and it's all on the ocean side.  She also said power trucks are out and police are at each light that is out.

Michelle wrote in and said she lives on 110th Street.  She heard one loud bang a little after 8 p.m. Sunday.  She says she still has power.

A widespread power outage in Ocean City is leaving thousands in the dark during a busy Labor Day weekend.

ABC2 News first received word of the outage around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night.  People in the resort town tell us it stretches roughly from 62nd Street all the way up to 102nd Street.  Twitter users told ABC2 Meteorologist Mike Masco the entire ocean side is in the dark.

Mike tweeted a picture which shows the lights are still on by the fishing pier.

We have calls out to a spokesperson with Delmarva Power to learn more about the outage and when power could possibly be restored.
