Drivers will need to keep an extra close eye on their speed in Prince George's County. Starting Monday July 17, Maryland State Police and MDSHA are setting up automated speed enforcement systems at work zones along north and southbound I-95 and I-495 near the bridge over Suitland Road.
For three weeks after July 17 if the drivers are caught going 12 or more miles over the speed limit, they'll get a warning in the mail. Starting August 7 drivers will get a $40 ticket.
The goal of the SafeZones is to keep construction crews safe and improve work zone safety. State officials say the speed enforcement systems have already contributed to an 80 percent drop in speed camera violations.
