Two bear sightings have been reported on the University of Maryland College Park campus, according to university police.
In an email sent to the campus community Tuesday, police said callers notified the Natural Resources Police Department of two bear sightings near Elkton Hall, a dorm on campus.
The sightings on the College Park campus are not the first ones in “unusual” areas—a bear sighting was recently reported in Randallstown.

An official with The Maryland Department of Natural Resources said that bear sightings in suburban Maryland are “completely normal behavior.”
“Bears generally travel through these areas each spring and summer before quickly returning to more suitable habitats,” Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said in a statement.
Campus police provided several tips for dealing with bears, including getting inside if you see one, not panicking, backing away slowly and not feeding bears.
Campus police encouraged members of the university community to call police if they see a bear on campus.
