TSA officials said a computer system malfunction caused delays at security checkpoints nationwide Friday morning.

The Department of Homeland Security system outage “prevented passengers and airlines from printing out boarding passes. Some airlines resorted to hand-written boarding passes,” Lisa Farbstein, a spokesperson with the Transportation Security Administration told ABC2 via email.

The outage was resolved Friday afternoon, Farbstein said, with possibly thousands of people affected nationwide.

Travelers flying out of BWI airport reportedly missed scheduled flights due to the glitch.

TSA said travelers should continue to arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to departure.
