Trial against former Navy football player set to begin today

The military trial of a former U.S. Naval Academy football player accused of sexually assaulting a classmate is set to begin today.

Opening statements were originally scheduled for Monday, but the court date was postponed due to weather.

Joshua Tate of Nashville, Tenn. is accused of sexually assaulting a female student at a 2012 off-campus party in Annapolis.

He's charged with aggravated sexual assault and lying to police.

Tate is one of three originally believed involved in the incident in which the female midshipman said she was assaulted after falling asleep.

Tate is now the only one charged in the case.
