Tornado touches down in Calvert County

BENEDICT, Md. (WMAR) - The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touchdown in Calvert County.

Officials say the tornado started as a waterspout, as tornadoes over water are called, over the Patuxent River at about 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

The waterspout was seen moving across the Benedict Bridge, Route MD 231, and then it dispersed. Once the waterspout made landfall on the bridge it was officially called a tornado.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage.
