Three people were killed after police said a 2013 Honda Civic fled from Maryland State Police during a traffic stop in Charles County, early Saturday morning.

According to police, a trooper attempted to stop a car on Old Washington Road in Waldorf around 2 a.m. for numerous traffic violations.

As the cruiser pulled up behind the car, it accelerated and ran through a red light.

Police said the car then traveled southbound on MD Route 925 and approached Billingsley Road. After turning on Billingsley Road, the car hit a concrete median and went airborne into a grassy area.

Once the car landed, it collided head on with a tree. All three people inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Police have identified the victims as Luis Daboin, 24, of Hughesville, Maryland, Sollan Belina, 28, and Joseph Nystrom, 24, both of North Carolina. They said they believe Belina, the driver, and Nystrom were visiting Daboin.

Troopers on the scene believe both speed and alcohol contributed to the crash. No police officers or other citizens were injured during the incident.
