UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Mourners will say farewell to a student whose fatal stabbing is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
Media outlets report that thousands are expected at the funeral for Richard Collins III on Friday at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Upper Marlboro. The funeral is open to the public.
Rev. Darryl Godlock, a spokesman for Collins's family, describes the 23-year-old as an "outstanding" and "highly intelligent" man who wanted to follow in his father's footsteps in the military.
Police say Collins, a Bowie State University student set to graduate this week, was attacked by Sean Urbanski while visiting the University of Maryland. The black student's slaying is being investigated by the FBI as a possible hate crime. Urbanski, who is white, is charged with murder and assault.
