Student charged in school fire

KENT ISLAND, Md. (WMAR) - Deputy State Fire Marshals have concluded their investigation in the Kent Island High School fire that happened yesterday.

The investigation revealed the student responsible for the blaze in the first floor boy's bathroom. A 16-year-old student confessed to igniting paper towels inside the bathroom causing the entire school to be evacuated.

While the blaze only took about 5 minutes to extinguish, the teen was charged with first and second degree arson, reckless endangerment, malicious destruction of property, disturbing the peace and disrupting school activities.

The teen was released to the custody of his mother, pending actions by the Department of Juvenile Services.
