MOUNT SAVAGE -- A dairy industry lawyer says the collapse of his snow-covered barn in western Maryland has spelled the end of Allegany County's last dairy farm.
Farm owner Edward Crossland is general counsel for the Lanco Pennland Quality Milk Co-op, which markets milk from about 1,000 regional farmers.
He told the Cumberland Times-News on Monday that more than 2 feet of snow over the weekend caused the partial collapse of his barn roof.
Although none of Crossland's 38 dairy cows were seriously hurt, he says he's shutting down his dairy operation, partly because rebuilding this winter is virtually impossible.
