State lawmakers considering bill to give employees paid sick leave

Testimony for paid sick leave

Faith leaders, business owners and educators are among those set to testify today before two state senate committees concerning giving paid sick time to thousands of workers.

There is legislation before lawmakers called the Maryland Paid Sick and Safe Leave Act.  It would allow workers to earn one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours they work.

According to the advocacy group Working Matters, more than 700,000 workers in Maryland can't take a sick day without losing a day's pay.
