Maryland lawmakers have introduced a bill that would make it a crime for privately contracted bus drivers to fail to supply medical records showing they are fit to drive.

The proposal would impose a $5,000 fine on drivers who fail to file the proper paperwork.

The bill follows the deadly Southwest Baltimore bus crash last November that left six people dead.

Glenn Chappell, school bus driver, crashed into an MTA bus, killing himself and five others.

Officials issued a statement saying 67-year-old Chappell failed to update his Medical Examiner’s Certificate, which expired on Aug. 31, 2016.
