Rockville couple accused of locking autistic twins in a basement

ROCKVILLE, Md. - A Rockville couple is charged with keeping their autistic sons locked up in the basement.

Police searched the Montgomery County home and, according to court documents, found the 22-year-old twins locked in a small room with no furniture to sit or sleep on. The men had just a comforter covering the floor. There was also no bathroom or electricity.

John and Janice Land told police their sons were completely non-verbal and had a history of running away. So they'd been locking them up every night for the past six years.

Neighbors say they knew something was wrong  and had called police several times starting three years ago.

The Lands are both charged with abuse and false imprisonment. They are due back in court in September.
