It’s not quite the record-breaking $590.5 million jackpot won in Florida in May, but Wednesday’s Powerball is up to a cool $257 million, according to Lottery officials.
The cash option for the still impressive jackpot is $151.9 million.
Should a Maryland resident win the Powerball jackpot and chose the cash option, the winner will net $100.63 million, according to Maryland Lottery spokeswoman Erica Palmisano. Maryland has had five second-tier Powerball winners who each made $1 million.
The state in turn would collect $13.29 million in taxes. About $38 million would go toward federal taxes.
The shop that sells the ticket would get a $100,000 bonus.
