The Prince George’s County police department is warning people about a red light camera scam.
Offficials say a caller posing as law enforcement tells potential victims they failed to appear in court for a red light camera ticket. The victims are told to go a local store and pay a large fine or a warrant will be issued for their arrest.
Police remind consumers that they do not call consumers instructing them to bring payments to a business and that non-payment is not an arrestable offense. All payments are handled by mail or through a website as listed on the tickets.
If you get a phone call from anyone asking you to pay a red light camera ticket, call the Prince George’s County Police Automated Traffic Enforcement Office at 301-955-0790.
