Police are investigating an armored truck robbery at a Laurel bank Thursday afternoon.

According to police two masked men with rifles robbed the Brinks employee outside the BB&T bank in Laurel around 12:30 p.m.

Witnesses said the men, dressed in black, approached the driver as she left the bank and took the money bag she was carrying. They fled west toward MD 216 in a black Dodge Avenger with paper tags and tinted windows.

Police found the empty bag at 7th and Main Street. It was filled with other empty bags. The suspects did not get away with any cash, police said.

The FBI and special agents from DC and Takoma Park came to the scene due to similarities with armed truck robberies in their jurisdictions. Detectives say the Laurel robbery is related to the other armed vehicle cases.
