Philadelphia distiller creates vodka with seasonings similar to Old Bay

Old Bay-flavored vodka

BALTIMORE - A whiff of Old Bay can conjure up thoughts of the picnic tables by the ocean filled with crabs fresh out of the steamer.  The seasoning can bring a spicy flavor to any food and now you can get the same taste in your martini glass.

A Philadelphia distiller launched a new flavored-vodka called "The Bay", according to the Washington Post.  It uses "traditional Chesapeake seasonings," such as black and red pepper, allspice and celery salt.

Fritz Hahn, a writer for the Post, taste-tested the vodka at a bar in D.C.  He described the flavor as "light," with a "mild spiciness" taste and even a bit of brininess.  A Facebook page dedicated to "The Bay" says it will be perfect with your Bloody Marys, oyster shooters or dirty martinis.

"The Bay" will be available in local bars and should be in stores in Maryland and D.C. by early April.
