U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) announced the procurrement of a $1.3 million grant from the U.S Department of Labor to provide job training to homeless veterans in Maryland.
The grants are being awarded under the Department’s Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP), administered by the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service.
The funding was awarded on a competitive basis to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and community organizations.
Grantees have proven that they can effectively provide homeless veterans with the requisite skills to find employment. Grantees will also assist veterans with career counseling, life skills, money management, and housing placement.
The Maryland funding is part of a larger $36,710,368 package that will aid 12,000 veterans nationwide. $9,094,355 will go to new grantees.
