LEONARDTOWN, Md. (WMAR) -
A Mechanicsville man has been arrested and charged after police say they led him on a high speed chase through the streets of Leonardtown.
At about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, officers saw a white GMC Jimmy traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour on Route 5. Deputy Kenneth Flerlage, a 4-year veteran of the St. Mary's County police force, attempted to stop the truck.
Teddy Natel Ragan, Jr., the driver of the truck, did not stop and continued to drive recklessly at a high rate of speed.
During the pursuit both Deputy Flerlage and Lieutenant Philip Joseph, a 22-year veteran of the force discharged their weapons. Ragan sustained injuries during the pursuit, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Ragan has been charged with first degree assault, fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, reckless driving and speeding, 105 mph in a posted 50 mph zone.
Ragan is currently being held on a $45,000 100% bond.
The two officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave.
