Maryland drivers will be subject to several new laws beginning Saturday.
The Drunk Driving Reduction Act of 2016, better known as Noah’s Law, was named in honor of Montgomery County Police Officer Noah A. Leotta.
Leotta was hit by a drunk driver while pulling over another suspected drunk driver during a holiday patrol. He died of his injuries a few days later.
The law mandates the use of an ignition interlock for those convicted of drunk driving, and will increase administrative driver’s license suspension periods.
According to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, there are 7,884 impaired driving crashes statewide, resulting in 171 fatalities and 4,026 injuries every year.

Other motor vehicle laws that take effect Saturday are:
A law requiring drivers to possess, or carry in their automobile, a current insurance identification card issued by their insurance carrier. The insurance identification card may be in tangible (paper, plastic, etc.) or in an electronic format. Violators could face a $50 fine.
A law requiring owners of historic vehicles to certify that the car will be used only in clubs, parades, classic car shows and other activities.
A law allowing a person trading in a leased car to to purchase or lease another car and receive a trade-in allowance toward the total purchase price of the new car.
