A new law goes into effect Oct. 1 that would help more than 600,000 Maryland drivers expunge their records.
House Bill 1017 allows the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) to expunge all eligible driving records because some employers require clean driving records from applicants.
"Improving customer service by simplifying and increasing access to government resources is one of our administration's top priorities," said Governor Hogan in a statement. "This automatic expungement process fulfills these goals and will be a tremendous benefit to all Marylanders seeking employment."
The law, which pass during the 2017 legislative session, eliminates the process of drivers applying to have their driving record expunged and changes to certain suspensions. Child support noncompliance will no longer prevent someone from having entries removed from a driving record.
