A Frederick museum's advertisement won't be featured in a Washington visitors guide's upcoming edition because the museum's logo includes a Confederate flag.

The Frederick News-Post reports Destination D.C. Vice President of Partnerships and Alliances Claire Carlin told the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in an email Monday that the company won't run any ads depicting the flag in its September publication.

Carlin asked the museum to submit an alternate image to run instead. David Price, the museum's executive director, declined to honor her request. He says Carlin's email surprised him, as ads with the same logo were included in prior editions of the biannual Official Visitors Guide.

Confederate symbols have come under increased public scrutiny since the June 2015 massacre of nine black worshippers in Charleston, South Carolina.
