Baltimore’s regional Veterans Affairs office has the longest wait for pending claims in the country, the latest audit of the department shows.
Baltimore also shows the second highest percentage of backlog cases.

Monique Kelly served in the United States Army for more than a decade, fighting in multiple wars.
Then she became sick and turned to the Veterans Affairs Health System for treatment.
Then, another battle ensued – over who would foot the bill.
"They said, 'Do what you have to do.' How do you tell a veteran who's sick who's sick, who's constantly in the hospital for surgery after surgery after surgery? I'm just tired,” Kelly said.
