Maryland landed the No. 8 spot in a list of the most gender-equal states in 2016.

The list, compiled by Wallet Hub, reviewed the gap between female and male executives and the difference between unemployment rates for each gender.

Maryland also ranked 4th as a state with the smallest work hours disparity nationwide. The list placed Hawaii in the No. 1 spot for gender equality.

The survey comes on the brink of Women’s Equality Day celebrated Friday, Aug. 26.

On Monday, Aug. 29, the Maryland Commission for Women and the Baltimore County Commission for Women are set to host an open forum commemorating the day women were legalized to vote.

The meeting will be held at the Baltimore County Public Library at 6 p.m.
