Maryland kicks off "Operation Hire" to get veterans back to work

MARYLAND - Maryland leaders marked this memorial day with a new effort to get our veterans back to work.

Governor Martin O'Malley and Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown unveiled "Operation Hire". It's a 100 day hiring challenge that encourages employers statewide to hire vets.

The campaign kicks off June 1st.

“Veterans bring remarkable skill sets and qualities to our civilian work environment. They display fierce loyalties and commitment, a strong work ethic, excellent problem solving capabilities, and technical training,” said Governor O’Malley. “Supporting veteran employment is not only good for our veterans and their families; it is good for our communities and our businesses."

Business owners, employers and veterans can register for the program through the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs' website.
