UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - A Temple Hills man has pleaded guilty to dragging a Prince George's County Police officer with his car.

The county State's Attorney's Office said in an email that 27-year-old Danny Harvell pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree assault.

Prosecutors say on July 15, 2015, an officer approached Harvell in a car in District Heights and smelled marijuana.

Police say when the officer reached into the car, Harvell drove off, and the officer's arm got tangled in the seat belt. The officer was dragged about 100 yards before the car hit a tree and rolled onto the officer.

Prosecutors say the officer, whose thigh was broken, had to undergo extensive surgery.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 25.
