Man arrested in carjacking, rape

FREDERICK, Md. (WMAR) - Police in Frederick have arrested and charged Montrelle Denard Bowie for his involvement in the kidnapping and rape of a woman.

On Sunday officers were flagged down in the area of the 500 block of N. East Street by a passerby who stated that they had just picked up a woman that had jumped out of a moving vehicle.

Officers were able to locate the woman and determined that she was the victim of a rape. The victim told police that she was raped by an unknown man in the 100 block of E. South Street after she got out of her car from grocery shopping.

The victim told investigators that after the rape, the suspect forced her into her car and drove her around until she jumped out. Then he fled the area.

On Monday, a suspect was developed with the assistance of the community. At about 1:00 p.m., detectives received information that the suspect was chased from the area of E. All Saints Street by friends of the victim to an area in the 100 block of Market Street. During that time, there was a physical altercation between the victim's friends and Bowie.

Bowie was stabbed and sustained lacerations in the altercation. Bowie was chased into a convenience store where he was held at bay until the police arrived.

Bowie was charged with first and second degree rape, first and second degree sex offense, carjacking, kidnapping, second degree assault, motor vehicle unlawful taking, theft $1,00 - $10,000 and theft less than $1,000.

The Frederick Police Department extended thanks to the public, and the others who assisted in the investigation. With their help, detectives were able to close the case by arrest within 18 hours of the initial call for help.
