Man acquitted of manslaughter in son's death

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -

A man whose 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself has been found not guilty of manslaughter.

But a Salisbury jury on Thursday found 30-year-old Jamal Woolford Sr. guilty of reckless endangerment, firearms -- access by minors, and several drug offenses.

Woolford's son, Jamal Woolford Jr., fatally shot himself and injured his mother on March 5 with a gun his father kept in the bedroom.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports (http://bit.ly/14fu4bY) that Woolford testified during trial that he bought the gun to protect his family. He said he mostly kept the weapon under the bed.
