A  25-year-old Laurel man was hit and killed by a CSX train at 12:45 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of Lafayette Avenue at Bowie Road, according to Laurel Police.

CSX Spokesman Laura Phelps said the train's crew called Prince George's County Fire and Rescue to report the incident.

Laurel Police were dispatched to the scene and found the victim dead on the tracks.

His body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The 80-car train involved in the incident was empty. It originated in Baltimore and was headed to Pennsylvania, Phelps says.

Train traffic resumed at 3:00 a.m.

The victim's name has not been released pending notification of his family.
