An emergency crew pulled a horse from a quicksand-like stream in Maryland.

The Herald-Mail reports Humane Society of Washington County Field Services Director Crystal Mowery says a passer-by noticed a horse sunk in a slow-moving stream Sunday afternoon and called emergency services.

Capt. Wesley Shipley with Williamsport Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services says Washington County Special Operations rescuers slipped straps under the black horse after donning wet suits to dig out debris, and a D&D Towing truck extended a boom over the horse to lift up the straps.

Despite some thrashing, the horse was hoisted out and onto the stream bank, seemingly no worse for wear. Officials say the horse was in the water for at least more than an hour.

The newspaper couldn't reach the horse's owners.
