Gov. Larry Hogan said Thursday afternoon he has declared a state of emergency in advance of this weekend's forecasted blizzard.
Speaking at Maryland Emergency Management Agency headquarters, Hogan said he signed an order declaring a state of emergency beginning at 7 a.m. Friday.
The governor said the blizzard could be the worst snow storm Maryland has seen since the twin blizzards in 2010, and cautioned that it could take a week for some local roads to be cleared.
"Our state is taking every precaution," Hogan said.

He said the National Guard is prepared to mobilize. The State Highway Administration will begin pre-treating roads Thursday, and all modes of transportation are expected to be impacted by the snow.
The governor also urged Marylanders to have enough food and supplies to last a week, and to stay home and avoid driving anywhere if they don't have to.
