The rankings are out for the best high schools in the nation, and few in our area are being recognized for their achievements.

These lists are put together every year by U.S. News & World Report, which reviews more than 22,000 schools from coast to coast.

Those recognized in our area are Marriotts Ridge in Marriottsville, River Hill in Clarksville, George W. Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson and Baltimore's Eastern Technical.

None of these schools ranked in the top 100 nationally, but Eastern Tech and George W. Carver did rank in the top 100 for best magnet schools. River Hill did well in the STEM school rankings.

Making the top of the list in Maryland was Winston Churchill High in Montgomery County.
