Heat related deaths surpass 2011

BALTIMORE (WMAR) - Maryland health officials say they have linked 4 more Maryland deaths to this year's record heat.

A total of 38 deaths have now been linked to heat. The most recent deaths occurred in Kent County, Baltimore City and St. Mary's County.

The new total surpasses last years total. In 2011 there were a total of 34 heat related deaths and only 12 heat advisories were issued.

So far this year there have been 14 advisories issued and a total of 38 deaths.

While the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene does not release the names of the victims, they say that died earlier this summer but their deaths were not confirmed to be heat related until recently.
