Gov. Larry Hogan wants to commit $139 million dollars to widen a 3-mile stretch of Route 175.

The section of road starts at 295 and goes to Mapes Road.

Right now, there are only two lanes of traffic, but the project would expand it to six.

Given the amount of workers at Fort Meade, Hogan says this investment is necessary.

"A top concern of our administration is the safety of our citizens. And this road simply isn't built to handle the volume of traffic and to adequately provide access to jobs," Hogan said.

The work for this project is expected to start in 2018.

This is part of the governor's almost $2 billion investment in improvements for highways and bridges.
