Four people are in the hospital after a tractor-trailer crashed into the side of their home early Saturday morning.
Deputies with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to the 23000 block of Budds Creek Road and discovered that a tractor-trailer had driven off the road and into a house, trapping the people inside.
Investigators say a 2017 Kenworth T880 towing and empty semi-trailer driven by Bolden Macarthur Walker, 72, was traveling eastbound on Budds Creek Road when the operator lost control as it was approaching a traffic circle. The truck then left the road, hit an awning of an unoccupied building, and then hit the side of the home.
Inside of the home was Billie Fitzpatrick, 38, Thomas Johnson, 37, and two kids. The kids were taken to a hospital for precautionary measures. Walker and Fitzpatrick were transported by ambulance to an area hospital with incapacitating injuries.
The collision is still under investigation by Deputy First Class Nauman. Anyone who may have observed the collision and has not yet provided a statement is asked to contact DFC. Nauman at (301) 475-4200 extension *8109, or by email at Taylore.Nauman@stmarysmd.com.
