GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - A federal judge in Maryland will rule later on three lawsuits requesting preliminary injunctions to block the most recent Trump administration travel restrictions.
U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang heard arguments Monday.
The lawsuits allege that restricting travel for citizens of predominantly Muslim countries violates the U.S. Constitution.
The Trump administration in September announced the most recent restrictions, which affect citizens of Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria and Yemen - and some Venezuelan government officials and their families. They're to take effect Wednesday.
Four attorneys argued that the travel restrictions are, at their core, a Muslim ban, despite the addition of two non-majority Muslim countries to the list. Meanwhile, an attorney for the government argued that the restrictions are based on a months-long review, and are not discriminatory.
