ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Delegate Don Dwyer is facing added pressure – the pressure of a boat accident that sent him and six others to the hospital.
Following the crash that took place last summer Dwyer admitted to drinking before he got on his boat. Two weeks ago, he
took to Facebook and admitted to having a drinking problem .
Thursday he made the same statement, and went into depth about how the stress of last year's legislative session affected him personally and made avoiding the bottle even more difficult.
"Not only has it been embarrassing, but to lay it all on the line and admit to the public that I had been drinking the day of the accident… nothing to hide," he said.
Dwyer says he felt betrayed by some of his colleagues on the topic of same sex marriage.
"I had fought this for many, many years. So, yes, I did take it personal."
As far as dealing with the consequences of his actions, Dwyer's trial is in May, and he said he is going to take it like a man.
"I'm going to be public about it, and I'm not going to go home pouting," he said.
If Dwyer serves jail time he will be removed from office.
