A 9-year-old boy is on a mission to give every police officer in America a doughnut to say thank you. And on Friday, he's coming to Maryland!
Tyler Carach will be stopping in at the Harford County Sheriff's office southern precinct in Edgewood at 9 a.m. He's delivering donuts not just to sheriff's deputies, but also Maryland State Police, as well as officers from Aberdeen police, Bel Air police, Havre de Grace police, Baltimore County police, Cecil County sheriff's office, Aberdeen Proving Ground police, and Maryland Transportation Authority police.
Tyler and his mom left their home in Florida back in June, they're on a six week road-trip across the country to personally deliver sweet treats to police as part of Tyler's "I DONUT need a reason to thank a cop" campaign.
Tyler's mom says it all started a year ago when they were eating at a restaurant and saw four officers. He asked if he could use his allowance to buy them a cop's favorite food - a doughnut.
"I want to tell other people to not be mean to cops because they keep your family safe," said Tyler. "Cops are my best friends and they keep people safe. I want to be a K9 officer. I get a dog and I get to work."
So far Tyler has delivered more than 22,000 doughnuts to police in 16 states, and he isn't done yet. Many of the doughnuts are donated by Dunkin' Donuts, Tyler and his mom have paid for the rest.
