DEWEY BEACH, Del. -
Dewey Beach is considering tougher limits on nighttime noise coming from bars and restaurants in an ongoing struggle between residents and businesses.
WBOC-TV reports the town's noise committee has recommended lowering the limits at night from 75 decibels to 60 decibels. The daytime limit would be lowered from 80 decibels to 70 decibels in the beach town known for its nightlife.
Noise committee chairman Jim Dedes says it's not an attack on the bars. He says they are trying to reach a balance for the community and have a reasonable limit for Dewey's bars.
Steve Montgomery, owner of the Starboard bar and restaurant says the noise ordinance is unenforceable and motivated by politics.
The town council is scheduled to vote on the matter May 12.
