Police say a deaf woman walking on the railroad tracks was fatally struck by an oncoming freight train in the western Maryland town of Smithsburg.

Washington County Sheriff's Detective Howard Ward said Tuesday that 51-year-old Kathy Lynn Williams of Smithsburg apparently didn't hear several blasts from the CSX train's horn.

It's the second time this week a person has been hit and killed by an oncoming CSX train in Maryland.

On Monday, a 25-year-old Laurel man was hit and killed by a CSX train at 12:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Lafayette Avenue at Bowie Road, according to Laurel Police.
