Temperatures are going to rise to record heights with extreme humidity and poor air quality.

Patient First wants to remind residents how to stay healthy in the extreme weather.

  • Use air-conditioning to protect against heat-related illnesses. If you do not have air conditioning in your home, then spend time in air-conditioned places like malls, libraries or other cooling centers.
  • Stay informed by listening to news and weather channels before you head outside. Dressing appropriately is important. If possible, wear light-colored, loose-fitting breathable materials, such as cotton.
  • For special health safety tips and alerts, contact your local public health department.
  • Staying hydrated is important all year, but especially now. Drink cool, non-alcoholic beverages and increase your fluid intake no matter what your activity level may be.
  • Remember that sweating rids your body of essential nutrients. It takes more than water to stay properly hydrated, so make sure to eat healthy and replenish your body with nutrients as well.

In response to the heat,  many counties are opening up cooling centers to keep people healthy and safe. Cooling centers are accessible air conditioned areas with water and restroom facilities.

The following locations are where you should head to in order to stay cool this weekend.
