Crews from BGE will be working to get the power back on in Florida after Hurricane Irma.

200 employees and contractors left from the company's Howard County Service Center on Sunday morning.

"They're staying overnight in North Carolina and then they'll pick up tomorrow morning and get out early and make their way in. So, hopefully they can hit the ground running once the storm has cleared and the damage assessment can begin," says BGE spokesperson Linda Foy.

As of Sunday night, 3.3 million homes and businesses in Irma's path were without power. That number is expected to rise.

"I suspect that, in some cases, they will be rebuilding entire sections of the electric system. Damage is going to be massive. Poles are going to come down, lines are going to come down, trees going to come down," said Foy.

BGE says helping out in Florida will not affect its ability to respond to power outages in Maryland.
