Black Box: Anri Sala
Sept. 14-Oct.31, all day, Free

Anri Sala’s dramatic film 1395 Days Without Red recreates the terror and uncertainty Sarajevo civilians endured from 1992 to 1996 when their city was under siege. Filmmaker Anri Sala laces scenes of the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, whose musicians continued to practice and play throughout the violence, rehearsing the First Movement of Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique, with a musician making her way through what became known as Sniper Alley. Sprinting through the streets, she runs the music through her head. At each crossing, she hesitates, holds her breath, and pushes through.
