Arrest made in Silver Spring trail rape

SILVER SPRING - One man is behind bars, charged with raping a woman who was out for a jog.

Police have arrested Joaquin Torres.

Investigators had gone back to the Northwest Branch trail in Silver Spring to look for clues, and found the suspect on the trail.

The 20-year-old woman told police she was running last week when a man with a knife dragged her off the trail and attacked her.

People in the area say they're glad police have made an arrest, but are still on edge.

"It was surprising to hear something like that happened during the daytime. But you know anything can happen, you always have to be careful," said one neighbor.

Torres faces first degree rape charges.
