SILVER SPRING, Md. (WMAR) - A 7-month-old girl is dead after police say her 14-year-old brother killed her.
Montgomery County police were called to an apartment in the 11600 block of Lockwood Drive in White Oak around 6:40 a.m. Friday morning.
Initial reports were described to police as assistance with a pediatric injury where the victim was unresponsive.
As officers made their way to the scene, 7-month-old Larissa Yanes was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where she was pronounced dead moments later.
An investigation has revealed that the victim's mother, 39-year-old Gloria Yanes, left the baby girl at home Thursday night to work an overnight shift.
Police say the victim was being watched by her 14-year-old brother, Johnathan Aguiluc.
Aguiluc was interviewed by police and admitted to beating his sister, causing her to cry.
The 14-year-old said he covered his sister's mouth and nose area with his hands until she stopped crying, according to police.
Once the victim stopped crying, Aguiluc placed her in a car seat inside the home where police were told the children's mother found her after returning home at 5:30 a.m. the next morning.
Yanes tells police that she thought the 7-month-old was sleeping when she returned home.
It would be when the 36-year-old mother went to feed her daughter 30 minutes later that she discovered the victim was unresponsive.
Aguiluc is charged as an adult with first degree murder and being held without bail.
The 14-year-old suspect's bail review hearing is expected on Monday around 1:00 p.m. in Rockville.
